Very Problematic Device

Customer Rating: Average rating of 2/5Average rating of 2/5Average rating of 2/5Average rating of 2/5Average rating of 2/5
This device is of very limited usefulness. Had to abandon installation and go to a different solution. Two main problems: (1) it does not coexist peacefully on a computer along with a webcam and sound card & speakers, and (2) it is incompatible with the current version of the Skype software. In regard to #2, uninstalling the current Skype and installing the version that came with the D-Link adapter was a no-go; the installation stopped and insisted on installing a newer version. Even if you could get beyond that problem, #1 is - to me at least - a deal breaker.

A possible solution could have been to install on another, "clean" PC dedicated primarily to being a server for this adapter, but that would be far from an optimal solution for the problem at hand. I found a better alternative without this device.

Finally got it working! :)

If you are thinking about this product for Vista or Windows 7 you won't have a chance - XP is your only choice - trust me, I spent hours trying to get it to work :( However, if you have an old idle XP machine, the software installs there with no worries or hassle. I installed the latest Skype, installed the DLink software and everything worked as expected. I have an idle PC that is now my home phone system using skype - I went ahead and bought the dial in number for skype and it works great. First home phone I've had in several years actually...

Windows 7??? Who Knew!?

Let us cut to the chase...

Instruction & software cd = worthless
Stated system requirements = vague & incomplete
Never pay full price for this kind of item from a 3rd-tier vendor

Not supported by D-Link. Useless on any modern OS

DO NOT buy this if you have a Vista 64, Windows 7 64 or any 64-bit OS. Basically any computer manufactured in the last 2-3 years. D-Link stopped supporting this device and will not create drivers for any 64-bit OS. I have searched high and low and there is no way to get this to work on a modern computer. This was a great idea but was abandoned by the manufacture. I will not be buying any D-Link products in the future.

No 64-bit support; a decent unit if you go back in time

I wish I knew it had no 64-bit support before I bought it. I read the reviews on a few sites, but I didn't bother to read the ones on Amazon when I made the purchase. Aside from the fact that it is useless in today's world, I'm sure it will do a decent job once I manage to get a 32-bit operating system installed on a virtual machine to actually use the device.

The reason I give this product a 3/5 instead of a lower rating is simply because almost every Skype adapter you'll find (that isn't made by Skype) will probably be for 32-bit systems only. It's unfortunate and causes a bit more hassle, but it doesn't deserve a one star rating when the fact is I made the mistake of buying an older unit and failed to note that D-Link won't be making new drivers for newer OS support.
