Making sense of the conflicting reviews (worth reading)

I don't usually write reviews but I think this one will be helpful. This device is good but the software is problematic (hence the mixed reviews) . For example, it will not work with Skype 4 or with Win XP service pack 2 & 3 (and I'm not sure if it would work with Vista service 2 & 3). However, if you have windows 7, I would recommend this device if you install it properly.

1) You will need to install the old skype (version 3) (you can get it from old apps - just google it).

MAKE SURE TO INSTALL IT USING THE COMPATIBILITY MODE - ignore the warnings compatibility problems from Windows !!!!

(right click the setup icon > click on properties > click on the "compatibility" tab and choose Windows Vista and place a tick above)

2) Download the latest driver from D-link (1.1) and install it with the compatibility mode (as done above) and choose Windows Vista (plain Vista without service pack).

3) Change the audio settings in Skype to accommodate the new device (tools > options > audio settings).

The device should work properly now. Don't forget to press #* before you make a call with the phone and # once you want it to dial.

Also, DON'T PULL OUT THE USB before closing the program it may mess things up...

Hope this helps.

Good way to use cordless phones to dial landline and Skype out

Use this product is an effective way to use Skype convinently and integate with landline phones.
Pros:
1. Simply said, it works.
2. Integrate with landline usage (directly dialing with landline and use pre and post-fix to dial with Skype).
3. If hooked up with a multihand set cordless phone system, can provide service to the whole house (some said DECT phone may not work for this purpose).
Cons:
1. Installation is a bit tricky. Follow the instruction outlined by other reviewers. Do not use windows assigned drivers. Occasionally it needed to be unplugged and plugged in to hook up with Skype program.
2. Require a connected computer to be on 24/7.
3. Sound quality is acceptable but a bar lower than the landline.
4. It may have messed up my landline once (lost dial tone), but unplugging the unit for a while solved the problem. This hasn't happened very often.
Since I do not have a Skype in number, I haven't use to receive call.

Flopped!

D-Link Skype USB phone adapter software and hardware did not work. I struggled for several hours and then read deeper into other people's hardships regarding their software. Lucky for me I also purchased the significantly cheaper USB Telbox from Amazon which is working just fine with my portable Panasonic phone system using Skypemate software(a free download). Wake up D-Link and pay attention to the public - There are over 400 million Skype users out there.

Just what I needed

A complete disaster of a product. No current support from DLink for this product and installation on XP SP3 was a nightmare. It does not work. It is no wonder many of the major online merchants do not stock it anymore ( i think it will soon be a discontinued product). I wasted my money on it. I am researching the similar ZOOM voip adaptor to replace the piece of useless plastic i just bought!
