I have been using Fujitsu tablets for school and work for the last 7 years. My first was the 4000 series, then had the Pentium based 5000 series, then a Dual core 5112. I have enjoyed them all. I just got the ST6012. I found very few objective reviews so I thought I would post one. First let me contrast the ST5112 with ST6012. The chassis is nearly identical, but the ST6012 adds a ruggedized rubber along the top surface for better grip. I dont think it would help in any way if it were dropped. The ST6012 screen is recessed into the bezel where as the ST5112 and earlier models had the screen at the same level of the bezel. I prefer the even flat surface, but the ST6012 still feels great when working on it. The button layout is identical. Four steel hex bolts adorn the ST6012 in each corner, dont think they really do much, but then i have yet to unscrew them. Gone on the 6012 is the telephone modem and its jack, really not needed these days of ubiquitous wifi and cell phone tethering. On the back of the 6012 are four doors. One for access to the harddrive as well as the radio cards, all running in 3 pci mini slots, WIFI, turbo memory, 3G, wireless USB, can all be plugged into these slots. A door opens for the very fast DDR3 memory slots, fill them with 4Gb and Windows 7 will fly. A NEW door reveals access to the fan area, and now you can replace the fan or blow it out with ease.
The battery is held by two spring loaded sliders and compared to the ST5112 the battery fits very tightly and one cannot see where the battery meets the chassis. It really looks good. The whole ST6012 is black while the older models are silver. I love the black as dirt does not show up, but then i never let dirt touch this baby. The BIOS is now fully accessible without the need for a keyboard all from buttons or touch screen. It boots up the USB with ease, but so did the 5000 series. With 4Gb DDR3 and windows 7 64bit, the time to usable windows is less than 2 minutes. From sleep its less then 10 seconds. Windows 7 really runs smoothly with all the aero crap turned on full. Screen is now 1200x800 widescreen and looks great, and appears brighter than the 5000 series. Overall its very snappy when running office and other programs. Onenote is amazing on this tablet. My big HATE on this device; the lag of full 64bit Win7 drivers. No hdd shock is working with pure 64bit drivers. Use 32bit win7 or vista if you want full support. Its 2010, where are my 64bit drivers for my amazing 64bit computer. Despite this, I love my Fujitsu ST6012 tablet.
Great device. My everyday bookreader/navigator/notebook.
